The War on Cyclists and Pedestrians is Getting Ugly

Another story that has grabbed my attention. I ride on the highway. If it has a shoulder. I do on occasion have to ride the "white line" on roads without shoulders, but I try to avoid them. Most drivers are courteous. They will give me room. Some will even go into oncoming traffic lanes. I really wish they wouldn't do that.

Question To Drivers:
Do you hate cyclists? Why? Because you may have to slow down? Wait for a safe window of time to pass me? Is it the clothes? Is it because you are too lazy to get from behind the wheel. So you're jealous?

Read the story from Treehugger. They say the guy was speeding and dragged the cyclists 200 feet! Look at the picture of the truck. The front end looks like he hit a deer or even a car. Yet no ticket. Read the excerpts from other blogs criticizing the victims. Written as though they hate bicyclists. The Governor of Texas vetoed a bill because it gave to much caution toward "vulnerable road users" and puts too much responsibility on the car driver. What?

Vulnerable road users? Would a person on a motorcycle fall into this category?

I try not to think of this while I ride, but it creeps in. I would love to commute by bike. I don't because of articles like these. I must be getting old.

Good topic and post Adam - I agree! We will only ride the bike trails in Omaha as the Omaha motorists clearly believe they own the road and don't slow down for cyclists. I'm just happy we have nice trails that can really take us about any where we want to go. Now, about those strollers and pit bulls on the trails.....

@katbron don't get me started on Pitbulls. Strollers and Walkers on the trails. They believe they own the place! Their attitudes is as if we riders shouldn't be on the trail. I'm usually riding by fast enough that it only bugs me when I can see them coming up head on.
